Abstract

For the examination of the sensitivity to minocycline (MIND) of Enterobacteriaceae isolated in Korea, a total of 278 strains of organism, including 80 strains of Escherichia coli, 110 strains of Shigella, and 88 strains of Salmonella, was employed.
Among 278 isolates, 267 strains (96. 1 /o) were sensitive to MINO, while 2 strains of E. coli, 4 strains of Shigella and 5 strains of Salmonella were found to be resistant to MINO.
Among 118 strains carrying R factors which contain markers for a variety of drug resistances, including tetracycline resistance, 7 strains(5.9%) were resistant to MINO. Among 70 strains of tetracycline-resistant bacteria, 7 strains(10%) were resistant to MINO, showing that the organisms isolated in Korea, such as E. coli, Shigella, and Salmonella, are more susceptible in vitro to MINO than to tetracycline.
